On January 13, 46-year-old Alrick “Shawn” Alphanso Barrett arrived at a residence on Cory Carnel Lane to drop off his child after a visitation. As Barrett entered the house, the grandmother attempted to bring the child inside. Unbeknownst to her, tragedy was about to strike.
Once inside, Barrett confronted his estranged wife, expressing his desire to reconcile. However, she firmly declined his proposition. It was at this point that Barrett unleashed a hail of bullets, taking the lives of his estranged wife, his brother-in-law, his sister-in-law, and his 8-year-old niece, before ultimately turning the gun on himself.
The authorities were alerted to the horrifying scene when the grandmother and one of the two children hiding in a closet managed to make a desperate call to 911. Prior to this devastating incident, deputies had responded to the residence once before, having received a call about a verbal argument.
