In a shocking incident, the Delhi Police have successfully apprehended two individuals, including a juvenile, for attempting to pass off the murder of their friend as a suicide. The accused individuals were found guilty of smothering the victim to death at their shared flat in Nihal Vihar. This gruesome act was committed simply because the victim had refused to bring them a glass of water, thereby leading to a heated argument.

Discovery of the Crime

On January 11, the police received an urgent PCR call reporting the discovery of a lifeless body at a flat in Laxmi Park near Nihal Vihar. Upon reaching the location, the authorities found the deceased person lying on the bed in a room on the first floor. Initially, based on the caller’s report, the police suspected suicide; however, a thorough investigation revealed indications of a homicide.

The Victim’s Identity

The victim has been identified as Rachit, a 20-year-old laborer who worked in close proximity to the crime scene. Rachit’s tragic demise has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving his friends and family grief-stricken.

Forensic Examination and Ruling Out Suicide

DCP (Outer District) Jimmy Chiram stated, “A comprehensive examination of the body was conducted, along with a post-mortem. The doctor’s findings confirmed that the victim had been strangled, evidenced by ligature marks on the neck. This ruling effectively eliminated suicide as a possible cause of death since the ceiling in the flat was too high for the victim to have reached.”

Legal Actions Taken

Based on the post-mortem results, the police have filed a case under sections 302 (murder), 201 (disappearance of evidence), and 34 (common intention to cause harm) of the Indian Penal Code at the Nihal Vihar police station. This step ensures that justice will be served, and the guilty parties will face appropriate legal consequences for their heinous actions.

Investigation and Accused Individuals

During the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the deceased had been residing in the rented accommodation with the two accused individuals, who were currently missing. Their mobile phones were found switched off, adding suspicion to their involvement in the crime. Through rigorous surveillance, the authorities were able to trace the location of the phones to Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh.

Arrest and Recovery of Evidence

Following subsequent police raids, one of the accused, identified as 27-year-old Abhay Kant Mishra, was successfully apprehended in Hardoi. Additionally, the second accused, who happens to be a juvenile, was also taken into custody. The police have recovered various items, including knives, mufflers, and a rope, which were allegedly used during the commission of the crime.

Motive Behind the Murder

According to Mr. Mishra’s statement to the police, the unfortunate incident unfolded after a disagreement between the three individuals regarding the provision of drinking water. The victim’s refusal to fetch them a glass of water triggered the accused individuals, leading to the fatal strangulation using a rope. These chilling details highlight the extreme and irrational nature of the crime committed by the accused parties.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully, as even trivial disagreements can escalate into tragic events. The Delhi Police’s swift action and dedication to justice have undoubtedly brought some solace to the grieving family and the local community.
