Rush County, Kansas: Death Investigation Underway after Man Found Dead near La Crosse

RUSH COUNTY (Kan.) – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Rush County Sheriff’s Office have initiated a thorough death investigation following the discovery of a deceased man on Wednesday morning near La Crosse.
According to the KBI, at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the Rush County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call from an individual who reported spotting a lifeless body in the south ditch on Avenue N, situated around half a mile east of U.S. Highway 183, near La Crosse. Promptly responding to the call, deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed the presence of a deceased male.
Seeking additional expertise, Rush County authorities requested the assistance of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Subsequently, agents from the KBI, along with the Crime Scene Response Team (CSRT), swiftly responded to the incident site at approximately 11:20 a.m.
The deceased individual has been identified as 18-year-old Zachary Thiel, a resident of La Crosse. Investigators discovered a vehicle, believed to have been driven by Thiel, trapped in the snow roughly half a mile east of where his body was found.
