The NYPD has arrested a man on Thursday in connection with two separate stabbing incidents on MTA subway trains in New York City. The arrest comes just one day after another suspect was charged for a series of unprovoked attacks in Queens, as reported by Fox 5 NY.

The first stabbing incident occurred on Wednesday on a D train in Manhattan, while the second incident took place on a 2 train in the Bronx. The NYPD has revealed that a 27-year-old resident of Queens, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken into custody on Thursday morning. Charges against the suspect are currently pending.

According to the police, the arrested individual has a history of multiple prior arrests, including five within the past 12 months, for offenses ranging from assaults to sex crimes.

During a press conference held on Thursday morning, the NYPD announced the arrest of the suspect involved in a nine-day stabbing spree in Queens that left five people injured. The police provided detailed information on how they tracked down and apprehended the suspect.

Details of the Manhattan Subway Stabbing

The first stabbing incident occurred on Wednesday, shortly before 6 a.m., aboard a southbound D train that was halted at the 59 St – Columbus Circle subway station. A 42-year-old man was approached by an assailant and stabbed in the right shoulder before the attacker fled the scene.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Details of the Bronx Subway Stabbing

The second stabbing incident occurred on the same morning, just before 8 a.m., on a northbound 2 train in the Van Nest section of the Bronx. A 19-year-old man was randomly stabbed once in the left arm.

The victim was taken to a hospital, and his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.

Arrest of the Suspect

At around 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, police officers stationed at a Bedford Park subway station heard a commotion on a southbound platform and witnessed a man fleeing the scene. The officers pursued the suspect through the station and managed to apprehend him.

The NYPD stated that the suspect was wearing the same clothing as described by witnesses and was found in possession of two knives.

Increase in Stabbings and Slashings in New York City

Statistics reveal a 5% rise in stabbings and slashings in New York City from 2022 to 2023, with the total number of incidents increasing from 4,318 in 2022 to 4,553 by December 18, 2023. As of January 14, 2024, the NYPD has reported 176 stabbings and slashings.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, a suspect was arrested in connection with a stabbing spree in Queens that resulted in at least five people being injured. The arrested individual, identified as 27-year-old Jermain Rigueur, has been charged in four out of the five attacks so far. The charges against Rigueur include attempted murder, assault, attempted assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
