66-Year-Old Salem Man Fatally Struck in Crosswalk

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Tragedy struck on Friday evening as a 66-year-old man from Salem lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a crosswalk, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. at the intersection of Center St. and High St. NE. Police swiftly responded to the crash scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Initial findings from the Salem Police Traffic Team’s preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was in the crosswalk on the east side of the intersection when a pick-up truck driver initiated a left turn, resulting in the fatal collision.

The pedestrian, who has been identified as Robert Marshall, was immediately rushed to Salem Health for medical treatment. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical professionals, Marshall succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital, police confirmed.

Authorities have identified the driver of the pick-up truck as Shawnda Blair, aged 48. Blair remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators, providing essential information regarding the incident.
