35-Year-Old Man Arrested for Attempting to Sell Company Vehicle in Lagos

In a recent development, a driver identified as Ibrahim Babangida has been apprehended by detectives from the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi. The 35-year-old man was caught in the act of attempting to sell his company’s vehicle in Lagos.

The suspect, who had fled from his duty post in Delta State, was intercepted by the police in the Epe area of Lagos while engaging in negotiations with his co-conspirator to sell a Toyota Hilux for a staggering N10 million.

Shockingly, Babangida had only been employed as a driver for a mere 48 hours before making off with the company vehicle. Police operatives, however, were vigilant and closely monitored the movement of the vehicle, eventually leading to the arrest of the suspect at a mechanic workshop.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Idowu Owohunwa, who is in charge of FCIID, paraded the suspect at the FCIID Headquarters in Lagos. He revealed that the arrest was made on New Year’s Day, following an intelligence-led undercover operation spanning from Delta State to Lagos.

Babangida, upon his arrest, confessed his intention to sell the stolen vehicle through his contact, Emmanuel Olalekan, a mechanic at Epe, Lagos State, who is currently on the run.

“He also indicated that Olalekan introduced him to Wilson Onobukoko and Daniel Paul, who were responsible for finding potential buyers for the stolen vehicle. It was during their collaboration that undercover police detectives from FCID Annex in Lagos apprehended him, recovered the stolen vehicle, and arrested Onobukoko and Paul,” stated AIG Owohunwa.

Further investigations revealed that Babangida, who was employed by SKECC Nigeria Limited, a construction company based in Warri, stole the vehicle entrusted to him immediately after delivering company items to the Sapele staff quarters. He then headed to Epe, Lagos State, with the intention of selling the vehicle for N10 million.

As a result of the successful arrest, both the stolen vehicle with registration number WWR 846 AH and its original documents have been recovered. The detectives are now coordinating with the Delta State Police Command to transfer the suspects and the stolen vehicle for further investigation and prosecution.

AIG Owohunwa emphasized the commitment of FCID Alagbon, Lagos, to the implementation of an intelligence-led policing model in order to enhance their investigative capabilities and effectively combat crime. This approach aligns with the directives of the Inspector General of Police.
