New Delhi: A shocking incident of rape has come to light in Delhi, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her mother’s live-in partner. The incident took place in the Burari area of north Delhi on July 23 last year, and the accused, identified as Ankit Yadav from Loni in Ghaziabad, has been arrested. The heinous crime has once again raised concerns about the safety and security of women and children in the city.

The accused, who works as a bus driver, had been living with the victim’s mother for the past eight years. The woman, who had three children from a previous marriage, left her husband eight years ago and has been in a live-in relationship with Yadav. According to the FIR filed by the victim’s mother, she was unaware of Yadav’s heinous acts until recently.

When did the crime take place?

According to the police, the incident occurred on July 23, while the woman was away in the hospital and had left her children at home. Taking advantage of the unattended kids, Ankit Yadav allegedly raped the minor. The accused also threatened her and repeated his crime on multiple occasions. A senior police officer stated, “It has been alleged that Ankit took advantage of the unattended kids to rape the minor. He threatened her and has committed the act on previous occasions as well.”

As soon as the woman learned about the incident, she immediately reported the matter to the police. Legal action was taken, and a case was registered against Ankit Yadav under sections 376 (rape), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Accused sent to judicial custody

The survivor underwent medical examination and counseling. Additionally, her statement was recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The accused, Ankit Yadav, was arrested and has been sent to judicial custody. The police are ensuring that all necessary legal procedures are followed to ensure justice for the victim.

This shocking incident once again highlights the urgent need for stricter laws and increased vigilance to protect women and children from sexual crimes. It serves as a reminder that society needs to address the issue of child safety and ensure a safe environment for all. Authorities must take immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators to send a strong message that such acts will not be tolerated.
