Woman Dies After Falling 100 Feet in Virginia Cave

The incident was reported to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office through a 911 call at approximately 4:13 p.m. on Friday. The caller informed authorities about a woman who had fallen into a cave near Pearisburg. Upon receiving the distress call, the Pearisburg Fire Department and the Giles Rescue Squad immediately responded to the scene.

Recognizing the complexity of the situation, the first responders sought assistance from the Celco Emergency Response Team and the Blacksburg Rescue Squad’s Technical Rescue Cave team. These specialized teams were tasked with aiding in the rescue efforts.

Discovery of the Victim

After successfully navigating their way into the cave, the rescue crews unfortunately discovered the lifeless body of Autumn Nicole Draper. Giles County Emergency Services Coordinator, Jon Butler, confirmed that the woman was extricated from the cave by the dedicated rescue personnel who were diligently working on the incident.
