According to documents obtained by authorities, calls were received on the afternoon of January 4th, reporting a man covered in blood standing next to an SUV on Interstate 10 near Chandler Boulevard. Another call came from a Chevron station in the vicinity, where a man claimed to have been injured in a road rage incident.

The victim, who was later taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition, told deputies and officers from the Gila River Police Department that the shooter was driving a black Mercedes. It was later discovered that the victim’s car had a bullet hole in the driver-side window.

Detectives interviewed the victim on January 10th, who recounted the events leading up to the shooting. He explained that while driving on Interstate 10, another driver, later identified as 39-year-old Salvatore Kupreisis, cut him off and flipped him off in the rearview mirror. This led to a verbal altercation and an attempt by the victim to pass Kupreisis.

The situation escalated as Kupreisis matched the victim’s speed, resulting in another argument. During this heated exchange, the victim claimed that Kupreisis pointed his finger at him in a threatening manner. Feeling threatened, the victim responded by flipping Kupreisis off as their vehicles began to separate. It was at this point that the victim felt a gunshot and pulled over.

Authorities reviewed footage from a dash camera in the victim’s car, which clearly captured the black Mercedes with a license plate linked to Kupreisis. In a lineup of driver’s license photos, the victim positively identified Kupreisis as the shooter. Detectives then located and surveilled Kupreisis at Gila River Lone Butte Casino, eventually arresting him once he left the casino.

Further investigation revealed that Kupreisis had traded the black Mercedes into a local car dealership, providing additional evidence linking him to the shooting. As a result, Kupreisis has been booked into jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, drive-by shooting, and aggravated assault. He is currently being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 19th.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with road rage. It is crucial for drivers to remain calm and avoid engaging in confrontations while on the road. By practicing patience and understanding, we can all contribute to safer roads for everyone..
