The Las Vegas Metropolitan police recently announced that the previously unidentified murder victim, known as “Jane Tropicana Doe,” is now identified as Linda Sue Anderson, thanks to DNA analysis.

According to the Las Vegas police, Anderson’s body was discovered on April 18, 1993, by a biologist conducting a tortoise survey in the desert area of Tropicana Avenue and Durango Drive.

During the survey, the biologist stumbled upon a half-buried handmade quilt with several large rocks on top of it. Upon closer examination, the biologist noticed what appeared to be human hair and detected a strong odor of decomposition.

Although the Clark County Coroner’s office determined the remains to be that of a woman and confirmed it as a homicide, they were unable to identify her at the time.

The investigation into Anderson’s murder remained unsolved for years, with her being referred to as Jane Tropicana Doe. The case was eventually assigned to the LVMPD Homicide Cold Case Section.

However, in February 2023, a breakthrough occurred when a forensic genetic genealogy investigation was conducted. Detectives managed to identify and contact potential family members who provided DNA samples for comparison.

Finally, on December 29, 2023, detectives received confirmation from Othram that Jane Tropicana Doe was positively identified as Linda Sue Anderson, also known as Linda Sue Andrews.

Family members of Anderson revealed that they had last heard from her in June 1991, further adding to the timeline of her disappearance and potential murder.

The Homicide Cold Case unit is actively investigating this case and is urging anyone with information about Linda Sue Anderson’s killing to contact them at (702) 828-3521.

The identification of Linda Sue Anderson brings some closure to her family after decades of uncertainty. However, the investigation into her murder continues, as authorities seek justice for her tragic death.
