Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Homicide in Fairfield Glade

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred in Fairfield Glade on Wednesday morning, resulting in two fatalities and one individual sustaining severe injuries.

Domestic Situation Turns Deadly

Authorities received a 911 call reporting a domestic situation with shots fired from the back deck of a residence located at 510 Wimberly Road. Responding swiftly, Fairfield Glade Police arrived at the scene just before 8 a.m.

Upon entering the house, officers discovered a man identified as James Chapman, 76, with severe lacerations. They also found the lifeless body of a woman, identified as 69-year-old Karen Chapman. Both individuals resided at the Wimberly Road address.

Suspect Identified and Found Deceased

James Chapman was immediately airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville for urgent medical attention. In the meantime, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) were called in to provide further assistance.

Law enforcement authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old Jason James Chapman, who also resided at the Wimberly Road home. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued for the suspect, leading investigators to discover that Chapman had fled to a hotel in Malvern, Arkansas.

Tragically, upon reaching the hotel, authorities found the suspect deceased from self-inflicted injuries.

No Ongoing Danger to the Community

Sheriff Casey Cox and Chief Kate Self want to assure the public that there is no ongoing danger to the community. While the investigation is still ongoing, they have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of residents in Fairfield Glade.
