Two individuals have been formally charged in connection with a tragic homicide that occurred in Onion Lake over a year and a half ago.

According to reports, on July 1, 2022, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received a distress call regarding an injured man found inside a camper adjacent to a residence in the Onion Lake Cree Nation. Swiftly responding to the emergency, officers arrived at the scene and discovered the victim, later identified as Abdo Grayman, a 46-year-old male. Grayman was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but sadly succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Following the victim’s untimely death, a comprehensive investigation was launched by the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit, in collaboration with the Onion Lake Detachment, the North Battleford General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Services, and the Lloydminster RCMP Dog Services.

The investigative team diligently pursued all leads and gathered substantial evidence, leading to the identification and subsequent charging of two suspects in relation to the heinous crime. The individual’s identities and the specific charges they face have not yet been disclosed.

The local community and the victim’s family have been eagerly awaiting this crucial development in the case, which has undoubtedly been a source of immense grief and pain for all those affected.

While the details of the investigation and the motive behind the crime remain undisclosed at this time, law enforcement officials have assured the public that every effort is being made to ensure justice is served, and the responsible parties are held accountable for their actions.

Residents of Onion Lake Cree Nation and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. The RCMP remains committed to maintaining a safe and secure community environment for all individuals.
