According to a statement from Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz, the incident leading to the arrest occurred on Friday at approximately 7:24 p.m. Brockton Police were dispatched to the Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet at 718 Crescent Street following reports of a shooting inside the restaurant.

The victim, 22-year-old Joe Araujo, was shot point-blank while seated in a booth. Sustaining gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg, Araujo was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

District Attorney Cruz revealed that the Brockton Police immediately contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, initiating an investigation into the case. Detectives worked tirelessly throughout the weekend, collecting information, speaking with witnesses, and gathering surveillance footage, including video footage of the shooting captured by the restaurant’s cameras.

Based on the evidence collected, Detectives were able to establish probable cause and obtain an arrest warrant for two suspects – Jamal Bazile and 22-year-old Nathan Veiga. Police executed a search warrant at Veiga’s residence, where they discovered a distinct jacket believed to have been worn by Bazile during the alleged shooting. Veiga was subsequently taken into custody by the Brockton Police.
