Man Accused of Killing Ann Arbor Resident Heads to Trial

Washtenaw County, MI – A 22-year-old man, Sekou Conde, has waived his preliminary examination and will now face trial for the murder of a 24-year-old Ann Arbor resident, Donrell Canda. The decision was made during a hearing before 14-A1 District Court Judge J. Cedric Simpson, sending the case to the Washtenaw County Trial Court.

Conde is facing charges of open murder, felony murder, first-degree home invasion, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and two counts of felony firearm. These charges stem from the fatal shooting of Canda near his Ann Arbor home in June 2023.

Canda was tragically shot while walking up to his residence in the 2500 block of Sandalwood Circle on a Sunday evening. According to the police, Conde confronted Canda and allegedly shot him. Conde then followed the victim into his home and fired additional shots. At the time of the incident, Canda’s girlfriend and their 3-year-old son were inside the house.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, although the police have confirmed that Conde and Canda knew each other. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Canda’s lifeless body with multiple gunshot wounds. Thankfully, the child was found unharmed in an upstairs bedroom. Conde was arrested in a nearby parking lot shortly after the incident.

In addition to the murder charges, Conde also faces charges of assaulting a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon in a separate case. He has waived his examination for this case as well, which took place in May 2023.
