DALLAS – A deadly shootout outside a Dallas library has been linked to an attempted purchase of an AR-15, court documents acquired by FOX 4 reveal.

On December 30, tragedy struck as 15-year-olds Angel Solis and Elijah Martinez were fatally shot outside the Mountain Creek Branch library. In a recent development, 17-year-old Obbie Perez was arrested on Friday and is now facing a capital murder charge in connection to the incident.

An arrest affidavit for Perez reveals that he drove Martinez to the library with the intention of purchasing an AR-15. According to investigators, Solis handed over the rifle to Martinez in a duffle bag, while Martinez provided Solis with counterfeit money.

Tragically, the situation quickly escalated as the two 15-year-olds began exchanging gunfire, resulting in both of them being struck. The arrest affidavit further states that Perez then concealed a Glock 9mm pistol, equipped with an illegal Glock switch, in the nearby bushes before promptly calling 911.

Upon the arrival of fire crews, Perez handed them a different handgun, as detailed in the documents. Subsequently, he was taken in for questioning as a witness.

Rather shockingly, after initially denying any knowledge of the events, Perez eventually confessed to investigators that he was aware of Martinez’s plan to use fake money to rob Solis during the firearm transaction. He also admitted to hiding the Glock in the bushes, according to the documents.

Perez is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail on a hefty bond of $2,000,000.

As this investigation continues, the tragic circumstances surrounding the library shootout serve as a somber reminder of the potential dangers associated with illegal firearms and criminal activities involving minors. The local community mourns the loss of two young lives and hopes for justice to be served.
