Man Identified and Charges Filed in Connection with Fatal Shooting in Lenexa

OLATHE, Kan. — The Lenexa Police Department has released the identity of a young man who was tragically killed in a shooting incident over the weekend. In addition, charges have been filed against the suspected gunman by the Johnson County district attorney.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Markese D. Gleghorn. The shooting occurred on Saturday night at approximately 7 PM outside a McDonald’s restaurant located near the intersection of W. 87th Street Parkway and Pflumm Road in Lenexa.

According to authorities, Gleghorn was found shot inside a vehicle and despite efforts to save his life, he tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Shortly after the police arrived, a 911 call was received from an individual claiming involvement in the shooting. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Dmariea Avance, was apprehended a few miles away at an apartment complex located at W. 88th Street and Lakeview Avenue.

The Johnson County district attorney’s office has filed three felony charges against Avance, including first-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm, and attempted distribution of marijuana.

Currently, Avance is being held on a bond set at $500,000. The date for his first court appearance has not yet been listed in online court records.
