Accident – death – Obituary News : Man Fatally Shot After Attempted Burglary near Selah
A man has died following a shooting near Selah on Sunday. The incident began when Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call regarding a burglary in the 1100 block of Ames Road. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a suspect in a vehicle who attempted to flee the scene but encountered mechanical issues, forcing him to abandon the vehicle and escape on foot.

In response to the situation, Officers from the Selah Police Department, Yakima Police Department, and troopers from the Washington State Patrol joined forces to locate the suspect. After a brief search, the man was found hiding in a garage in the 200 block of Johnson Road. Confronted by officers, the suspect was shot by a Selah Police Officer. Despite efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Following the incident, the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit was called in to conduct an independent investigation in accordance with state law. The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld pending notification of his family. The Selah Police Department will release the name of the officer involved in due course.
This tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
