In a devastating turn of events, a domestic dispute in Cleveland County took a tragic and deadly turn on Monday, January 8. The victims, Kimberly Renee McNeilly, 28, a loving wife and mother, and Laurie Ann Marks, 44, both residents of Casar, are mourned by their devastated family. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the incident revolved around domestic violence, and Eaker had been in a relationship with Marks.

Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman stated, “We’ve encountered him on a couple of different occasions, however I can’t elaborate on why due to HIPPA violations.” Norman further explained that on Monday night, deputies responded to a domestic dispute on Turner Road, where Eaker, McNeilly, and Marks were present.

“The domestic situation was de-escalated,” Norman continued. “The two victims left in their vehicle, and Mr. Eaker, refusing a ride or transportation from law enforcement, left on foot. Almost an hour later, shots were fired on Casar Road, leading to this tragic outcome.”

According to Norman, the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. A deputy, conveniently stationed nearby at a paramedic base, responded to the call within approximately 30 seconds of dispatch.

Norman added, “Sometime during that 57-minute timeframe, after leaving the Turner Road location, the victims picked up Mr. Eaker and gave him a ride.” Tragically, it was during this ride that the two women were shot.

Eaker, 32, was subsequently arrested at the home he had been living in on Oak Grove Clover Hill Church Road. He has been charged with two counts of murder and is currently being held without bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center.

Although there were no known restraining or protective orders involving Marks and Eaker, an aunt had recently obtained a restraining order against Eaker, unrelated to Monday’s incident. Law enforcement had not been previously involved in any violence between Eaker and Marks.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly domestic violence can escalate, resulting in the loss of lives. The violence has torn apart two families, leaving a lasting impact for years to come.

Kimberly Renee McNeilly and Laurie Ann Marks were both remembered on gunmemorial.org, where over 200 virtual candles were lit in their memory. Friends and family shared heartfelt photos, condolences, and memories on Facebook, honoring the lives of these beloved mother and daughter.

Sadly, this is the second incident to occur in Casar within a year. In January 2023, another shooting took place on Casar Road, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. David Wayne Owens, 66, was shot and killed by his wife, Clarice Owens, after a domestic dispute. Clarice Owens was then fatally shot by a neighbor who had intervened to assist David Owens in leaving the home.
