Deadly Shooting at Brockton Restaurant Leaves Suspect at Large

BROCKTON, Mass. – Suspect Still on the Run Following Brazen Shooting Incident

Authorities in Brockton, Massachusetts are on the hunt for a suspect involved in a shocking shooting incident that took place at the Hibachi Sushi Supreme Buffet. The Plymouth District Attorney’s Office released surveillance footage of the incident, hoping that someone may recognize the suspect and come forward with information. The incident occurred on Friday night, and the suspect is still at large as of Monday.

The surveillance video from inside the restaurant captures the chilling moment when the shooter calmly walked through the crowded establishment before suddenly opening fire on a man seated at a table. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Joe Araujo from Brockton, was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital but was tragically pronounced dead.

The shocking video, which has been edited to omit the actual shooting, shows the suspect walking calmly through the bustling restaurant, filled with families and children. After the shooting, pandemonium erupted as terrified families took cover under tables. Thankfully, no one else was injured in the incident.

Security analyst Dan Linskey, speaking to Boston 25 News, emphasized the importance of releasing the video promptly to aid in identifying the suspect. He urged the public to pay attention to details such as the suspect’s clothing, gait, or build, which may help in locating the individual responsible for this targeted attack.

Linskey added, “This was an individual who was stalked and targeted, clearly there was a relationship and reason why that person was looking to engage them in violence.”

Authorities are now investigating the relationship between the victim and the suspect, as it appears that Araujo was specifically targeted. This was not a random act of violence, according to the preliminary investigation conducted by the District Attorney’s office.

The traumatic event has left a lasting impact on the witnesses present in the restaurant. Linskey emphasized the importance of seeking support and resources for those affected by the incident, stating, “The vicarious trauma that the individuals in the restaurant witnessed will carry with them for a long time if not their entire life so making sure that resources are available and that individuals are not afraid to seek resources to go and talk with somebody about being there on a horrible day and seeing things you wish you had never seen.”

Local law enforcement, including Brockton police and Massachusetts State Police detectives, are actively investigating the incident. They are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
