SUV Driver killed in Head-On Collision with Tractor-Trailer on I-95 in Branford

An SUV driver was tragically killed early Sunday morning in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Branford, Connecticut. The incident occurred when the SUV, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling in the wrong direction on the highway.

Details of the Collision

The collision took place around 7:22 a.m. between Exits 53 and 52 on I-95 South. At that time, a tractor-trailer was traveling in the center lane of the three-lane highway. The Jeep Grand Cherokee suddenly veered into the center lane, causing a devastating head-on collision with the truck.

As a result of the impact, the driver of the Jeep, identified as 48-year-old Satoya Tenise Mccullers-Mays from Tucson, Arizona, was ejected from the vehicle. Tragically, Mccullers-Mays did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by state police.

Injuries and Road Closure

The tractor-trailer driver, a 50-year-old man from New Jersey, sustained minor injuries in the collision. Emergency medical service personnel evaluated him at the scene, but he declined further transportation to a hospital for additional evaluation.

Due to the severity of the accident, I-95 South had to be closed for approximately six hours, causing traffic delays and diversions in the area.

Ongoing Investigation

The Connecticut State Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the collision. They are urging any witnesses or drivers with dashboard cameras who were in the vicinity at the time of the crash to come forward and provide any relevant information.
