A tragic incident occurred in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, on January 14, when a 35-year-old man named Vinod Kashyap was allegedly attacked and killed while collecting donations for the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir. Vinod Kashyap and his brother were actively involved in collecting donations for a local temple to organize a special program on January 22, marking the inauguration of Ram Mandir. According to his brother, a clash broke out with members of another community after they raised slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during the donation drive. However, the police have a different perspective, considering it as a monetary dispute.

The Tragic Incident

The Superintendent of Police in Unnao, Siddharth Shankar Meena, shared that the incident occurred around 11 am on January 14. He explained, “A person named Kale (Khan) from one group demanded money and assaulted the victim by hitting him with a stone, due to which he suffered severe injuries.” Unfortunately, Vinod Kashyap succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Conflicting Statements

The victim’s brother claimed that the attackers were infuriated by their chant of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during the donation collection. However, Vinod Kashyap’s wife, Preeti, had a different version of events. She stated that Kale Khan and his supporters abducted her brother-in-law, and when her husband tried to intervene and save him, he was attacked with bricks and stones.

Legal Action Taken

Based on Preeti’s complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and detained Kale Khan, along with his supporters Chhotu Khan, Suhail, and Jamshed. The authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
