Accident – death – Obituary News : **LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. – Tragedy Strikes as 3-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shoots Himself**

In a heartbreaking incident that has left the community of Pink Hill in shock, a 3-year-old boy tragically lost his life after accidentally shooting himself with a handgun. The young victim has been identified as Clarence Byrd, IV.

The incident took place on Sunday inside a residence located in the 5500 block of Murphy Road. According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, the child somehow gained access to a handgun and unintentionally discharged it, resulting in a fatal injury.

Immediately after the shooting, Byrd was rushed to UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston for emergency medical treatment. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries at around 11 a.m. on Sunday.

As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with this tragic incident. However, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office has sent evidence to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) crime lab for further analysis and processing. This indicates that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s access to the firearm.
