Accident – death – Obituary News : Two People killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 in Carlsbad, California

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, two individuals lost their lives in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 near McClellan-Palomar Airport. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) swiftly responded to the scene on the southbound lanes of I-5, just north of Palomar Airport Road, at approximately 4:40 a.m.

According to authorities, a 28-year-old woman named Angela Hays, hailing from Corona, California, was driving at high speeds in a Hyundai sedan on the freeway. Her vehicle collided with a Jeep SUV, causing the SUV to roll over in the left-hand lanes. Subsequently, a third Nissan sedan, traveling in the High Occupancy lane, collided head-on with the overturned Jeep.

Sadly, a female passenger of the Jeep succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the male driver was pronounced dead later at a local hospital. Both victims hailed from Richmond, California, as confirmed by authorities in a press release issued on Saturday afternoon.

“The male driver of the Nissan was transported to a local area hospital for major non-life threatening injuries,” stated the press release.

Angela Hays, the driver of the Hyundai, was immediately arrested at the scene on charges of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. She has since been booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

As a result of the collision, all southbound lanes on I-5 were closed until 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Oceanside Area CHP office has urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact them at (760) 643-3400.
