Bicyclist Hospitalized After Collision with Minivan in Brevard County

A bicyclist was rushed to the hospital as a trauma alert after being struck by a minivan in Brevard County, Florida on Saturday evening, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred at the intersection of North Cocoa Boulevard and Broadway Boulevard in Cocoa at approximately 6:14 p.m.

The driver, a 43-year-old woman from Land O’ Lakes, was operating a Toyota Sienna minivan and traveling northbound on North Cocoa Boulevard in the inside lane. At the same time, a 60-year-old man from Cocoa, identified as the bicyclist, was traveling from east to west and entered the northbound lane in the path of the minivan, not using a marked crosswalk.

As a result, the front of the minivan collided with the bicyclist, causing significant injuries. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported the man to a local hospital as a trauma alert. Fortunately, the driver and passenger of the minivan were unharmed and remained at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances and factors contributing to the collision. The roadblock caused by the crash was cleared at 7:26 p.m.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder for both drivers and cyclists to exercise caution and follow traffic rules. It is important for drivers to always be aware of their surroundings and for cyclists to utilize designated crosswalks to ensure their safety on the road.
