Initially, the Vivekananda police station registered a case of murder against the unidentified suspect(s). The local crime branch, along with the assistance of the cybercrime branch, initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. The police officials revealed that the deceased criminal had a history of extorting money from Samir, the accused. Mukadya would often resort to violence when his demands were not met. Additionally, the investigation uncovered that Samir also has an attempted murder case registered at the Gandhi Chowk police station.

The encounter took place between the police and a gang of criminals in Kenghati village. Jacob, a 23-year-old resident of Laxmipur, Koraput, was apprehended. The gang had entered a liquor shop, assaulted the salesman, and made off with Rs 3.2 lakh in cash. The police managed to arrest 12 gang members and seized two pistols, two knives, and two iron rods.
