On the morning of January 9, 2024, the Sioux Lookout detachment along with North West Emergency Medical Services (EMS) swiftly responded to a 911 call originating from a location on First Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a female.

The deceased individual has been identified as 32-year-old Dawna MASAKEYASH, a resident of Sioux Lookout.
