Third Suspect Charged in 2016 Neptune Township Shooting

A third person has been linked to a 2016 Neptune Township shooting that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man, according to investigators. Stephon Keys, a 31-year-old resident of Neptune Township, has been charged with felony murder, armed robbery, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and weapons-related offenses, announced the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday.

Keys, who is already serving time at a New Jersey state prison on unrelated charges, joins Quashon J. McDuffie, 30, of Long Branch, and Knaliek Joshua, 31, of Asbury Park, who were charged last month for their involvement in the deadly shooting. The office has charged McDuffie and Joshua with felony murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and weapons-related offenses.

The incident took place on February 8, 2016, at around 8:18 p.m. in the 1300 block of 7th Avenue. Officers from the Neptune Township Police Department responded to a report of a shooting and discovered Andre Thorne, a 20-year-old from Bradley Beach, in the driver’s seat of a 2002 red Dodge Neon. Thorne had sustained a single gunshot wound and was immediately rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Tragically, Thorne succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital.

During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Thorne was in the car with two other individuals at the time of the shooting. This information led to the charging of McDuffie and Joshua. Although it remains unclear whether Keys was present in the car during the incident, he was identified as a third suspect in the investigation.

In a shocking turn of events, approximately 40 minutes after the initial shooting, another shooting incident occurred near the 1300 block of Monroe Avenue. While no gunshot victims were found at the scene, officers discovered evidence of a shooting and a car that had been struck twice in the 500 block of Myrtle Avenue, which intersects with the 1300 block of Monroe Avenue.

Detective Sergeant Keith Finkelstein can be reached at (732) 431-7160, ext. 3019, while Neptune Township Detective Carrie Bartlett can be contacted at (732) 988-8000.
