The incident occurred near the 38-mile marker on I-65 South in Maury County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The victim, a man whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained serious injuries when the suspect, identified as Quashonda Williams, veered off the interstate, onto the shoulder, and collided with the stationary vehicle.

Emergency crews from Maury County Fire worked diligently to extricate the man from his car, after which he was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center. The extent of his injuries remains unknown at this time.

While first responders were attending to the injured man, law enforcement officers remained with Williams, a 30-year-old resident of Smyrna. Body camera footage sheds some light on the events leading up to the crash.

One deputy asked Williams if she had consumed any alcohol that day, to which she replied, “No sir.” When requested to present her driver’s license, Williams stated that she did not have it but had paid for it earlier that day.

Williams claimed to have no recollection of the incident, stating, “I just know that I got knocked off the road and this is where I ended up. I didn’t know that I hit anybody.”

According to a witness who called 911, Williams had been driving without headlights for approximately 25 miles. When questioned about her lights, Williams informed the deputy that she was unaware they were not functioning.

During the conversation, Williams revealed that she was heading home to Smyrna, despite traveling southbound on I-65 in Maury County. The deputy pointed out that Smyrna was in the opposite direction, towards Alabama, and informed Williams that she was going the wrong way.

At one point during the stop, officers noticed Williams holding what appeared to be a perfume bottle. When asked about it, she mentioned that she was calling someone and began spraying the perfume. The deputy questioned her choice of communication device and whether she had good reception on it.

Following the incident, Williams was arrested and charged with DUI, vehicular assault, driving on a suspended license, and reckless driving. When approached for comment at the Maury County jail on Friday, she declined to provide a statement.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is currently handling the investigation and has not released any information regarding the condition of the other driver involved in the crash.
