Bank Robbery Suspect Shot and Police K9 Stabbed in Manchester Incident

MANCHESTER, NH – In a tense situation in Manchester, a bank robbery suspect was fatally shot by police, while a Manchester Police K9 named Duke was stabbed. The incident unfolded on Thursday when 34-year-old Jake Chiaradonna, wanted for a robbery, was located by Manchester Police.

The suspect was found hiding inside a stolen vehicle near Pine Street and Plummer Street around 9:30 a.m., according to the NH Attorney General’s Office. Despite repeated commands to surrender, Chiaradonna refused to exit the vehicle, escalating the situation.

With SWAT officers preparing to use chemical agents and requesting fire department standby, following protocol for such incidents, Chiaradonna eventually opened the vehicle door but resisted arrest.

During the chaos that ensued, Manchester officers attempted to subdue Chiaradonna using less-lethal force but were unsuccessful. The suspect then attempted to flee and attacked the officers, stabbing K9 Duke with a screwdriver. In response, an officer used deadly force, shooting Chiaradonna in the chest and hip. The wounded suspect was rushed to Elliot Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, Duke, the police K9, was immediately taken to a veterinarian for treatment. The Manchester Association of Police Canines later confirmed that Duke is now recovering at home.

Further investigations revealed that Chiaradonna was also a person of interest in a recent bank robbery at TD Bank on Woodbury Ave in Newington. Described as a white male, approximately 5’11” tall, wearing dark clothing and a partial mask, the suspect had stolen $1,000 from a teller’s drawer and was last seen fleeing in a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee.

These unfortunate events have left the Manchester community in shock. The Manchester Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure transparency and provide answers to the public.
