Philadelphia Man Arrested After Fleeing Police and Causing Fatal Accident

A fatal crash took place on Friday on Interstate 476 south at Interstate 95, resulting in the death of a 53-year-old motorcyclist from Drexel Hill. The Pennsylvania State Police have revealed that the accident occurred when the driver of a stolen car, attempting to evade law enforcement, collided with the motorcycle from behind.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Zamir Walthour from Philadelphia, was apprehended after the stolen Toyota Camry became inoperable on the Interstate 95 north ramp. Following his arrest, Walthour was arraigned by District Judge David H. Lang on multiple charges, including homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence (DUI), aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding, and several other felonies. He is currently being held at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility.

Unfortunately, the identity of the motorcycle rider has not been disclosed at this time.

According to officials from the Pennsylvania State Police, the incident unfolded as follows:

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Chester officers made an attempt to stop the stolen black Camry, which had been reported stolen in Philadelphia, at the intersection of MacDade Boulevard and Bullens Lane in Ridley Township.

Walthour, who was later confirmed as the driver, accelerated at a high speed, colliding with a patrol vehicle from the Chester Police Department during the escape.

The Camry then entered the southbound lanes of I-476 from MacDade, continuing on the shoulder at an excessive speed. At the same time, the motorcycle was starting from a stationary position on the highway’s shoulder when the stolen vehicle crashed into it from behind.

Despite the collision, Walthour kept driving until the Camry eventually became disabled.

Tragically, the motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the aforementioned charges, Walthour was also found to be in possession of cocaine and marijuana.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for January 26th before District Judge Andrew Goldberg.
