Oceanside Man Arrested in Connection with Road Rage Shooting on Interstate 5

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A 24-year-old man suspected in a road rage shooting on Interstate 5 in Oceanside was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Brightwel Ojahngoe, a resident of Oceanside, was arrested and booked into the San Diego County Jail – Vista Detention Center. He is facing charges of firing a gun on an occupied vehicle and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony, as stated in a news release by Officer Hunter Gerber of the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The incident took place on November 24th at approximately 9:17 p.m. on northbound I-5 near Mission Avenue.

According to authorities, the passenger of a Dodge Dart pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds at a group of motorcyclists, hitting the left side of one motorcycle. Thankfully, no motorcyclists were injured, but the motorcycle itself sustained damage.

After the shooting, the motorcyclists moved to a safer location and contacted the CHP. Meanwhile, the suspect vehicle fled the scene and continued driving on northbound I-5.

Law enforcement identified Ojahngoe as the suspect and apprehended him without incident. During the arrest, authorities also seized a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

Officer Gerber emphasized the dangers of road rage on highways and urged all motorists to prioritize safety and exercise patience while driving. He stressed the importance of staying calm, avoiding aggressive behavior, and promptly reporting any incidents to law enforcement.
