Tarzana Man Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charges in Dismemberment Case

Charges Filed in Gruesome Disappearance of Wife and In-Laws

LOS ANGELES – A 35-year-old man from Tarzana, Samuel Bond Haskell, entered a plea of not guilty on Friday in connection with the murder charges filed against him. The charges stem from the shocking and gruesome disappearance of his wife, Mei Haskell, 37, and her parents, Yanxiang Wang, 64, and Gaoshan Li, 72. The dismembered body parts of the victims were discovered dumped in a trash bin.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has charged Samuel Bond Haskell with multiple counts of murder, including a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. If convicted as charged, Haskell faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The victims, along with Haskell and the couple’s three young children, resided in a Tarzana home located in the 4100 block of Coldstream Terrace. They were last seen on or about November 6, according to authorities.

Following the disappearance, the couple’s children were located and are currently being cared for by other family members, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Haskell’s arrest came after the discovery of human remains inside a trash bin near Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Way in Encino on November 8. The dismembered body parts were later identified as Mei Haskell’s remains by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. However, the exact cause of her death is currently listed as “deferred.”

Investigators believe that Haskell hired four day laborers to remove several heavy black plastic trash bags from his home. It was during this process that one of the workers allegedly opened one of the bags and discovered the gruesome sight of body parts. The worker promptly called 911, leading to Haskell’s subsequent arrest.

As the case continues, Samuel Bond Haskell remains incarcerated without bail. He is scheduled to appear in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on February 16, where a date for a hearing to determine the sufficiency of evidence for trial is expected to be set.

Commenting on the case, District Attorney George Gascón expressed solidarity with the loved ones of the victims and emphasized the commitment to ensure justice is served. The Major Crimes Division will spare no effort in bringing about a prosecution that reflects the severity of this devastating crime.
