Accident – death – Obituary News : **Man Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charges After Allegedly Discarding Dismembered Body Parts**

A man accused of disposing of dismembered body parts in an Encino trash bin has pleaded not guilty to murder charges. Samuel Bond Haskell, a 35-year-old resident of Tarzana, appeared in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom on Friday to face three counts of murder for the deaths of his wife Mei Haskell, aged 37, and her parents, Yanxiang Wang (64) and Gaoshen Li (72). The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has also included a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders in the charges against Haskell.

Haskell’s initial court appearance on December 8 attracted attention due to his unusual attire – he was shirtless. Criminal defense attorney Alexandra Kazarian explained that when someone is arrested, there is an initial mental health intake, and if there is a possibility that they may harm themselves, their clothes and other items that could be used for self-harm are removed. Suicide vests are provided, but Kazarian stated that they are heavy and leaded, making it unlikely that Haskell was wearing one during his court appearance.

The victims, who resided with Haskell and the couple’s three young children on Coldstream Terrace in Tarzana, were last seen around November 6. The children have since been found and are under the care of family members. Haskell was arrested after human remains, subsequently identified as Mei Haskell’s, were discovered in a trash bin near Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Way in Encino.

Prosecutors allege that Haskell attempted to hire day laborers to remove bags from his home, unaware that the bags contained body parts. When that plan failed, Haskell was captured on video dumping the bags out of the back of his Tesla into the trash bin. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has classified Mei Haskell’s cause of death as “deferred.”

Haskell is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on February 16. At that time, a hearing will be set to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
