Man Arrested for Alleged Murder of Woman in Scioto County

SCIOTO COUNTY, OH (WOWK) – A 73-year-old man from West Portsmouth, Danny Vanhoose, has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder, a felony of the first degree, in connection with the death of a woman in Scioto County. The arrest was made by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, and Vanhoose is currently being held without bond.

The incident was reported to the authorities around 11:55 a.m. on Thursday when a distressed woman called 911, informing them that she had discovered her daughter’s lifeless body covered in blood on the floor of her friend’s residence. As a precautionary measure, the 911 communication officer advised the caller to leave the premises for her own safety, and law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the authorities located and detained a man inside the house. Following interviews with several witnesses, including the detained man, who was later identified as Vanhoose, the suspect was arrested without any resistance. Sheriff David Thoroughman revealed that Vanhoose had been a long-time friend of the victim’s mother for the past three decades.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Shurvonn Byrd from West Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene. To determine the cause of death, her body has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
