SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man who was apprehended in Mexico will spend the rest of his life behind bars for committing a double murder in Kansas. In a recent ruling, Judge Jeff Goering sentenced Kyle Young, aged 37, to life imprisonment, as confirmed by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office.

During an October court hearing, Young pleaded guilty to the charges of murdering 22-year-old Alicia Roman and 27-year-old George Kirksey, as stated by the district attorney’s office.

The incident occurred in the early hours of January 2, 2020, when law enforcement responded to a shooting at the Hotel at WaterWalk, located in Wichita on the 700 block of South Main, according to Officer Kevin Wheeler.

Upon arrival at the crime scene, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of Roman and Kirksey, both of whom had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, Wheeler added.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Roman and Kirksey were inside a hotel room when Kyle Young, the identified suspect, forcibly entered and unleashed a barrage of bullets, fatally injuring them before fleeing from the scene of the crime.

The tireless efforts of investigators finally paid off six months later when they successfully located Young in Mexico and apprehended him, Wheeler further detailed.

Court documents revealed that Young carried out the heinous act out of anger and jealousy, stemming from his former girlfriend moving on and finding a new partner. As part of his sentence, Young will be eligible for parole after serving a minimum of 100 years.
