Details of the Accident

The incident occurred late on Saturday evening when High Point officers responded to a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Wendover Avenue and Penny Road. A witness provided crucial information, including the vehicle description and tag number.

Shortly after, another crash was reported at I-74W and Johnson Street. Following investigations, officers determined that the suspect’s vehicle was the same one involved in the earlier hit-and-run on Wendover Avenue and Penny Road. However, when officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was nowhere to be found.

The suspect was identified as Eric L. Morrison Jr., a 33-year-old resident of High Point. Officers initiated a search for Morrison, and a K-9 track led them to a street near his home. Unfortunately, he was not located at that time.

Discovery of the Body

On Monday, Morrison’s family filed a missing person report, heightening concerns for his safety. The High Point Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, along with assistance from High Point Parks & Recreation and their Drone Team, intensified efforts to locate him.

It was on Wednesday that a member of a private search party made a shocking discovery. While scouring the woods near the crash site, they found Morrison’s lifeless body at the bottom of a steep embankment, approximately 25 feet down.

Tragically, Morrison had suffered a significant head injury, resulting in his immediate death. Investigators determined that he had lost control of his vehicle while ascending the exit ramp, veering off the side of the road and colliding with the guardrail. The impact ejected him from the vehicle, causing his head to strike a section of the guardrail. His lifeless body was found 75 feet away from the point of impact.

Additionally, it was discovered that Morrison’s vehicle had traveled around 250 feet further up the road, colliding with another vehicle at the top of the ramp. This heartbreaking incident marks High Point’s first traffic fatality of the year 2024.

In light of this tragic event, the High Point community mourns the loss of Eric L. Morrison Jr. and offers their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
