Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Elgin Shooting

A Wisconsin man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting a man in Elgin following the theft of multiple mobile phones, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Dijon P. Edwards, a 25-year-old resident of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, is also facing felony charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in relation to the fatal shooting that took place on October 20, 2023.

The victim, identified as Dontrell M. Cortez, a 25-year-old from Bloomington, was shot once with a handgun, as stated in a press release by the state’s attorney’s office.
