Multiple pedestrians and first responders sustained injuries during the incident. One victim remains hospitalized, receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, while the others have been discharged, as confirmed by Rochester Police Chief David Smith.

The investigation into the crash revealed the presence of several canisters filled with gasoline inside Avery’s vehicle. In addition, law enforcement discovered a replica handgun resembling a Glock, as well as multiple lighters. Smith stated that the suspect appeared to have deliberately aimed for the pedestrian crossing and accelerated as he approached it.

Despite ongoing efforts to determine a motive, investigators have been unable to identify any links to political, racial, or extremist ideologies associated with Avery. Smith emphasized that the tragedy seemed to have occurred without any clear indication of intent.

According to Smith, Avery’s family did not notice any immediate warning signs in December. Investigators did find an old journal spanning 20 pages, but no evidence suggests any connection between its contents and the incident.

Details have emerged regarding Avery’s prior visits to Rochester. As a traveling delivery driver, he had been to the city at least twice in December. After checking into a local hotel on December 27, Avery spent several days purchasing gas cans and filling them in the area. On the day of the incident, he spent considerable time around the Kodak Theater, potentially scouting the location. Although he had bought a ticket for the concert, he never used it.

Smith added, “Instead, Avery spent time around the theater, including nearby parking lots, until commencing his attack.”

No evidence has been found to suggest the involvement of any co-conspirators in the tragic crash.

The victims who lost their lives have been identified as Justina Hughes, 28, from Geneva, and Joshua Orr, 29, from Webster.

Authorities are appealing to anyone present outside the venue on the night of the concert to come forward and provide any relevant information to the police.

During a press briefing, Rochester Mayor Malik Evans expressed the difficulty in understanding Avery’s motive, stating, “We may never know why he decided to carry out his act. But what we should do is try to keep the memories of Dawn, Justina, and Josh alive.”
