Details Released about Fatal Crash on I-80 near West Wendover

Authorities have recently released details about a tragic accident that occurred on Friday, January 5th, on Interstate 80, west of West Wendover. The incident involved a black Honda CR-V that was traveling east on the interstate when the driver failed to navigate a sweeping left-hand curve, according to a statement from the Nevada State Police.

Tragically, the SUV veered off the right side of the roadway, and in an attempt to correct the course, the driver overcompensated to the left. This caused the vehicle to cross the center median, flipping multiple times as it traversed the westbound travel lanes before eventually coming to a halt on a sturdy concrete traffic barrier.

The driver, identified as 64-year-old Mark Munro from Homer, Alaska, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger who was also in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command East Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the crash to determine its exact cause and any contributing factors.
