73-Year-Old Man Arrested for Murder in Scioto County

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WCMH) – Authorities have arrested a 73-year-old man in connection with a murder that occurred in Scioto County on Thursday.

According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received at 11:55 a.m. from a woman who stated that she had found her daughter dead on the floor of a friend’s house.

Deputies and detectives quickly arrived at the scene and were able to apprehend a male individual who was inside the house. The man, who had been a friend of the victim’s mother for the past 30 years, was arrested without incident. The sheriff’s office conducted interviews with several witnesses, including the male suspect.

The suspect has been identified as 73-year-old Danny Vanhoose from West Portsmouth. He has been charged with aggravated murder and is currently being held without bond. Vanhoose is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on January 12.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Shurvonn Byrd from West Portsmouth. Her body has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Thoroughman stated that the investigation is still ongoing and may lead to additional charges. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information related to the case to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
