Upon arrival, the officers were met with a distressing sight. A 2019 Chrysler Pacifica and a 2016 Chevy Traverse were both immobilized in the middle of the road. The driver of the Traverse, thankfully, was conscious and able to communicate. However, the situation was far graver for a female passenger in the Traverse, who remained unconscious.

Preliminary investigations by authorities indicate that the Traverse had been traveling southbound on Airport Blvd. Unfortunately, it failed to adhere to traffic regulations and ran a red light at the intersection where the Highway 218 offramp and Broadway Street intersected. Meanwhile, the Pacifica, lawfully passing through the green light, tragically collided with the Traverse from the side.

Tragically, the passenger of the Traverse, identified as 71-year-old Dorothy Adamson, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The loss of a life is always a somber event, and our thoughts go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Both drivers involved in the collision were promptly transported to Unity Point Allen Hospital ER for immediate medical attention. Their injuries required urgent treatment, emphasizing the severity of the incident.

First responders at the scene noticed that the southbound traffic lights on Airport Blvd. were obscured by a thick layer of snow, rendering the red lights invisible. This critical detail, combined with the driver of the Traverse’s statement during the police interview, further highlights the hazardous conditions caused by the snow-covered stop lights.

As the investigation continues, authorities are diligently working to uncover additional details surrounding this tragic collision. It is crucial to determine the contributing factors and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
