The mother of the girl, 25-year-old Rabyah Muballigh, has been taken into custody and is currently being held in the Greene County jail. She faces charges of endangering children, a third-degree felony, as confirmed by jail and Fairborn Municipal Court records. Following her arraignment on Wednesday, Muballigh is scheduled to appear in court again next week.

The Dayton Daily News reports that law enforcement authorities received a distress call from the Fairborn Apartments shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday. Muballigh, later identified as the caller, informed the 911 dispatcher that a child in the apartment was experiencing breathing difficulties and urgently needed medical attention.

However, it was revealed that Muballigh was not present in the apartment at the time of the call and provided a different name to the dispatcher, as stated by the Daily News.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the apartment door unlocked. Inside, they discovered the young girl on the floor, curled up in a fetal position. Although conscious, she appeared disoriented and unresponsive, as reported by WHIO Channel 7. The child had also suffered numerous bug bites.

Court documents cited by WHIO reveal that the apartment was infested with bugs, and a refrigerator search uncovered dead insects and moldy food. Additionally, a soiled mattress and blanket were found, along with a decaying mouse inside a couch cushion.

The Daily News states that Muballigh had initially left the scene, but the police managed to reach her and persuade her to return. Subsequently, she was taken into custody.

Reports indicate that the child was suffering from severe malnutrition and remained hospitalized in critical condition. Muballigh claimed to the police that her inability to care for her child was due to her post-traumatic stress disorder.

This distressing incident has raised concerns about the welfare of children and the importance of early intervention to prevent such cases in the future. Authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s neglect, while the community mourns and prays for her recovery.

It serves as a reminder that society must remain vigilant and responsive to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children, supporting initiatives that protect their rights and provide the necessary resources for their care.
