West Monroe Police Investigate Drive-By Shooting on Ludwig Avenue

WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — On November 1, 2023, the West Monroe Police Department responded to a call regarding a drive-by shooting that took place on Ludwig Avenue. The victim and their vehicle were targeted multiple times during the incident.

Identifying the Alleged Shooters

According to court documents, investigators determined that the alleged shooters were traveling in a 2018 Dodge Charger. On December 4, 2023, detectives attempted to contact the owner of the Charger at a residence in Monroe, La. The owner, identified as Ja’niaya Jordan, admitted to driving the car on the night of the shooting.

Jordan was taken to the West Monroe Police Department for questioning, where she revealed that she did not personally know two of the male subjects who were present in the vehicle during the shooting.

Sequence of Events

Following the incident, Jordan drove to West Monroe, La. and then proceeded to a relative’s home. However, upon arrival, she discovered that the relative no longer resided there. As she was leaving the residence, the male subjects allegedly opened fire on the property.

Subsequently, Jordan drove to a gas station in Monroe, where the three male subjects engaged in a shooting with a group of individuals. The Monroe Police Department responded to the scene on Martin Luther King Junior Drive and found a victim who had been shot while sitting in the passenger seat of a moving vehicle. The victim was later transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle had taken the victim to the hospital.

Video Footage and Suspect Identification

Authorities obtained video footage from the gas station, which revealed a white Toyota Camry, with the victim as a passenger, being targeted by gunfire as it passed by the store. The shots were fired by two suspects who had exited a blue Dodge Charger parked at the gas station.

Further investigation revealed that the suspects in the Dodge Charger and the Camry were engaged in an oppositional encounter. Three male subjects were observed exchanging gunfire with the victim and the Camry’s driver.

Arrest and Additional Revelations

An arrest warrant was issued for Jordan on December 14, 2023, and she was subsequently taken into custody by the authorities.

During further questioning, Jordan revealed that her boyfriend had contacted her, claiming involvement in a shooting in Monroe. He believed that the victim had attempted to harm him and requested Jordan to pick him up.

When Jordan arrived to pick up her boyfriend, he was accompanied by an unidentified male subject and Montrese J. Plater. Mistakenly believing that a relative’s home in West Monroe was the victim’s residence, Jordan’s boyfriend and the two male subjects fired shots at the property.

On January 2, 2024, Plater was arrested and charged with three counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Criminal Conspiracy, Simple Criminal Damage to Property, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance. His bond was set at $246,000.
