Two Arrested Following Robbery Outside Coos Bay Walmart

COOS BAY, Ore. – The Coos Bay Police Department announced on Wednesday that two individuals have been apprehended in connection with a robbery that occurred outside a Walmart store in Coos Bay. The incident, which involved suspects armed with knives, took place in the store’s parking lot. The victim’s car was stolen, and the victim sustained minor injuries during the altercation.

Robbery and Assault Incident

On January 10, at approximately 5:39 p.m., the Coos Bay Police Department received multiple emergency calls reporting a robbery at the local Walmart store. According to witnesses, three assailants, who were known to the victim, attacked him with a knife before fleeing the scene in his black Mazda MPV van and an RV they had driven to the location. The victim was later transported to Bay Area Hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries sustained during the incident.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

The Coos Bay Police Department, in collaboration with the Oregon State Police, swiftly mobilized to apprehend the suspects. A trooper from the Oregon State Police spotted and pulled over the suspects’ RV within Coos Bay. Two of the suspects, identified as Joshua Wells, aged 40, and Mason Albano, aged 26, were successfully arrested and transported to the Coos County Jail. However, the third suspect, Deven Dunn, aged 33, remains at large and is now wanted for charges including third-degree assault and first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery.

Charges and Warrants

The arrested individuals, Joshua Wells and Mason Albano, face various charges in connection with the robbery. Wells is charged with third-degree assault, second-degree theft, and first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery. On the other hand, Albano faces charges of third-degree assault and first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery. Additionally, Albano has pending charges related to failing to appear in court for the original third-degree theft charge and failing to appear on a criminal citation. These charges stem from warrants issued by the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

Current Status

As of January 11, 2024, both Mason Albano and Joshua Wells remain in custody according to jail records. The Coos Bay Police Department continues its investigation into the incident, hoping to recover the victim’s stolen vehicle and locate the third suspect, Deven Dunn.
