According to the Ogun State Police Command, Ajayi had been missing since January 6, 2023, and her lifeless body was found floating inside a well in the neighboring compound of her parents.

The distressing incident resulted in three individuals sustaining injuries as some individuals allegedly attacked residents suspected to be living in the compound where the infant’s body was discovered.

Reports reveal that Ajayi’s mother, Daramola, had informed the police that the one-year-old was playing outside their compound while she went inside to collect some clothes for her.

To her shock, upon her return, she discovered that her baby was no longer in the place she had left her before entering the house to retrieve the baby’s clothes.

In response, the bereaved mother raised the alarm, drawing the attention of neighbors and passersby who joined in the frantic search for the missing infant.

Tragedy struck when the lifeless body of the girl was found floating on top of a well in a nearby compound. This discovery sparked violence and led to attacks on certain individuals within the community.

Odutola Omolola, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to our correspondents on Wednesday, stating that the injured residents had been swiftly transported to the hospital for immediate medical attention.

Omolola said, “When the baby was reported missing, the mother immediately notified the authorities. It is unfortunate that she was later found dead inside the well of the neighboring compound. The individuals injured during the resulting violent outbreak have been taken to the hospital for medical care.”

She further added, “The parents have chosen to proceed with the burial of their child, disregarding the police’s advice for an autopsy. Currently, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.”

This incident brings to mind a previous occurrence in the town, where two individuals, Femi Akinola and Tunde Falade, tragically lost their lives due to drowning in a nearby river.
