A Thai man has been arrested in the Isaan province of Sakon Nakhon for the premeditated murder of his father and sister. The motive behind the crime was revealed to be repeated arguments on inheritance. The man, identified as 35-year-old Warut Datephumee, insisted that the crime was committed without any influence of mental illness, alcohol, or drugs.

The bodies of the victims were discovered in metal boxes on January 9, following which Warut was taken into custody by the Phang Khon Police Station.

Warut initially confessed to the murder but did not reveal the motive until the next day. He explained that the conflict between him and his father had been ongoing since the end of last year. Each argument would end with his father threatening to cut off the inheritance that Warut believed he was entitled to. Feeling helpless and unable to impress his father, Warut planned the murder.

Warut also admitted to killing his younger sister, who was autistic and always sided with their father. He felt alone and believed that no one was standing by his side.

According to Warut, he designed the metal boxes himself and asked a local factory to add wheels so that he could easily push them into the pond.

Murder Plan

Warut revealed the details of his plan to the police, stating that he lured his father and sister to the pond by telling them that he was starting a fish farm. He further explained that he convinced them to lay down inside the metal boxes, claiming that the sheets would become fluffy at body temperature. Once they were inside, Warut locked the boxes and pushed them into the pond, drowning them.

Warut maintained that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and did not suffer from any mental illness at the time of the crime. He insisted that he was fully conscious and sober.

While the police accepted his confession, they will continue investigating the case to determine if anyone else was involved.

Under Section 288 of the Criminal Law, intentionally killing another person can result in the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for 15 to 20 years. However, since Warut committed the crime against his own father, the punishment could be the death penalty under Section 289 of the Criminal Law.

An unhinged Thai man has confessed to the shocking murder of his father and younger sister. He convinced them to lie inside metal boxes, locked them in, and dumped them in a pond in Sakon Nakhon’s Phang Khon district.

The discovery of the metal boxes in Nong Lum Hin pond on January 9 led to the identification of the victims as 33-year-old Piangpen Datephumee and her 68-year-old father Prayat Datephumee.

Warut Datephumee, Piangpen’s younger brother and Prayat’s son, was arrested following information provided by locals. Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious SUV parked near the pond on the evening of January 8, and some heard arguing before the boxes were found.

Initially denying involvement, Warut underwent psychiatric evaluation, which revealed no problems. However, he did have a history of neurodevelopmental disorders.

After hours of interrogation, Warut confessed to the murder, citing constant complaints from his father and sister as the motive. He had planned the murder meticulously, ordering the metal boxes from a local factory by claiming they were for his YouTube videos. He then convinced his father and sister to enter the boxes, which he had described as new types of beds he had invented. Once they were inside, Warut locked the boxes and dumped them in the pond.

Warut now faces severe punishment under Section 288 of the Criminal Law, including the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for 15 to 20 years.
