The Richmond Police Department is currently conducting an investigation following an unfortunate incident at the mental health facility of Chippenham Hospital, where a patient and a police officer were shot.

In the early hours of Friday, December 22nd, at precisely 4:11 a.m., officers swiftly responded to a distress call reporting a shooting at Tucker’s Pavilion, located within Chippenham Hospital.

Law enforcement personnel, who happened to be in the hospital’s emergency area at the time, promptly arrived at the scene. Their timely intervention revealed a man who had sustained gunshot wounds, fortunately not life-threatening. Subsequently, it was determined that the victim was a patient currently receiving treatment at Chippenham Hospital’s mental health facility.

Moreover, the police officers also apprehended the suspect involved in the shooting. The perpetrator, identified as a 27-year-old man from Glen Allen, surrendered himself to authorities without any resistance and was taken into custody.
