Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck on Route 9 in Freehold Township

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday evening when a pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck on Route 9 in Freehold Township. The victim has been identified as David Belcher, a 61-year-old resident, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. The hometown of the victim has not been disclosed at this time.

The incident took place at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9. Freehold Township police responded to a call regarding a pedestrian lying in the southbound lanes of Route 9, just north of the interchange with Route 33. Tragically, Belcher was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver involved in the accident was a 48-year-old operating a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck. According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the driver remained at the scene following the incident.

As of now, no criminal charges have been filed and no traffic summonses have been issued in relation to this tragic accident.

An investigation is currently underway by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department.
