The Richmond Police Department has commenced an investigation following a distressing incident at the mental health facility in Chippenham Hospital, where both a patient and a police officer were shot.

On the early morning of Friday, December 22nd, at precisely 4:11 a.m., officers promptly responded to a distress call reporting a shooting at Tucker’s Pavilion located within Chippenham Hospital.

Officers stationed in the vicinity, stationed in the emergency area of the hospital, swiftly arrived at the scene and discovered a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds, which fortunately were deemed non-life-threatening. Subsequent investigation revealed that the victim was a patient currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement also encountered the alleged perpetrator, a 27-year-old man hailing from Glen Allen. The suspect voluntarily surrendered himself and was apprehended without any further incident or resistance.
