New Castle Man Charged After Falsely Claiming to be a U.S. Marshal

New Castle, Ind. – A 50-year-old man from New Castle, Indiana, was charged with impersonating a federal agent with the U.S. Marshals Service during an arrest for trespassing. The incident occurred on January 9 on the 1700 block of Broad Street, after officers responded to reports of harassment and an attempted theft at a local store.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, later identified as Eric Marcel Turner, who claimed to be the owner of the store and referred to it as one of his “estates.” The store’s employee and owner requested that Turner be escorted off the premises, prompting officers to instruct Turner to leave.

However, Turner refused to comply and argued that he couldn’t be trespassed from his own property. He even claimed to own the New Castle Police Department and offered to give the arresting officer a raise. Despite multiple warnings, Turner continued to resist, leading to his arrest for criminal trespassing.

During the arrest, Turner falsely claimed to be a federal agent with the U.S. Marshals and insisted that the officers were making a mistake. The police informed Turner that falsely claiming to be a law enforcement officer was a crime and could result in additional charges. Nevertheless, Turner persisted in asserting his false identity as a federal agent and maintained his ownership of the store.

Due to the smell of alcohol on Turner’s breath, he was taken to the hospital for clearance. Even at the hospital, Turner continued to proclaim himself as a federal agent and accused the officers of “selling out to the queen.”

As a result of his actions, Turner has been charged with two Class A misdemeanors: impersonation of a public servant and criminal trespassing. An initial hearing for the case was held on January 10 at 10 a.m.
